I’ve resisted for some time adding Patreon to my site and videos. I’ve always felt like there were plenty of other ways for users to support The Geek Pub, and Patreon just wasn’t necessary. Yet I still get asked from time to time why I don’t have one. This last weekend, I changed my mind. A nice chap by the name of Clinton ordered 10 stickers with a note that said “Don’t send the stickers, I just wanted to give you a well deserved tip!”. Wow. I never expected someone to do something like that, but it also made clear I needed to offer another way for my fans to support me.
I spend a lot of money every month running The Geek Pub. In fact, I spend more than I make! That’s right. The materials alone usually cost me much more than I’ll make in ad revenue from YouTube or Google. I don’t have big sponsors sending me money every week like some channels do. Patreon gives the fans an opportunity to fund me directly. And anyone who is helping to fund also gets a voice in what projects I do. If you really want me to build project XYZ, go become a patron and suggest it in the comment box.
