Weekly Maker Digest #9
This week’s Maker Digest is all about a super awesome hardwood gift box, a scrap wood project you gotta see, a pen blank jig (I love jigs!), and a rockin’ cool paper airplane launcher! So grab a cold one and follow along!
Jay Bates’ “Wedding Gift”
Jay put together this awesome Wedding Gift Box for his friends who were getting married. Now for those of you who don’t follow Jay regularly (you should) then you know he’s a pine guy. He loves to make everything from pine. So a hardwood project from Jay is something special. It’s a rare treat! And it turned out absolutely gorgeous! This Woodwork’s Cool Scrap Wood Box
Alex Harris from the This Woodwork channel made a pretty dang cool scrap wood box. I hate to even use his term “scrap” because the box turned out so nice. It just goes to show that there really is no such thing as scrap wood and that almost any section of left over wood can be turned into something not only functional, but beautiful! See more of Alex’s stuff at his website ThisWoodwork.
CMR Woodworks Pen Blank Jig
Chris McDowell over at CMR Woodworks made a pen blank jig. Have I ever mentioned that I like jigs? Jigs are the meaning of life. The right jig can make a project simple and fast, especially if it is a repeatable task. This jig is just a couple of boards connected together with a hinge, but makes the process of drilling holes in the middle of pen blank a piece of cake. “Me like jigs!”
KipKay’s Paper Airplane Launcher
KipKay took a super simple set of components and turned it into something every kid would love. A paper airplane launcher. I mean this is neat stuff folks! I’d have killed for something like this when I was 7 or 8. He took some parts from an RC car (even the tires!) and a cheap toy ray gun and melded them into the launcher. Head over to KipKay.com to see more of his cool stuff.
About The Geek Pub’s Weekly Maker Digest
I follow a lot of Makers around the web, and I subscribe to a lot of Maker Channels on YouTube. Each week I pick my favorite projects from around the Maker Community and post them here (and on The GeekPub Facebook page). I look for unique and interesting projects, as well projects that require fine craftsmanship, or a specific skill to accomplish. These makers put a lot of effort into their videos. So if you like their work, please consider subscribing to their channel! Check out her site at WilkerDos.com!
Suggest a Project to be Featured
I can’t watch every single video on YouTube or follow every single maker’s website. So if you have a project that you’d like to be seen here (whether you found it or made it), drop me a line at mike (at) thegeekpub.com so I don’t miss it!
